Why is it sustainable?
Sola is a pendant lamp made of bamboo plywood that is produced with E0 glue to avoid formaldehyde emissions.
Bamboo is an inherently a sustainable material as it grows fast and thrives without needing pesticides, fertilizers or herbicides. Even better, all bamboo used by David Trubridge is a "secondary product", which means it is sourced from sustainably managed forests grown as a food source.
David Trubridge has a comprehensive approach to sustainability. Production is powered with renewable energy and all waste produced in the factory is carefully sorted and sent to recycling. For instance, sawdust is upcycled to generate electricity. Also, all lights are sold disassembled to save on shipping costs.
Part of David Trubridge revenues are donated to the Maraetōtara Tree Trust, a project aimed at restoring the ecosystem and establishing protected habitats for native plants and wildlife along Maraetōtara river – an area that suffered degradation from livestock pollution, willow tree infestation and a general lack of care and protection of river margins.
