Why is it sustainable?
Weez & Merl’s serveware is made upcycling waste LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene), a type of plastic used in shopping bags, film packaging and bubble wrap.
Production starts with melting plastic waste. The resulting plastic dough is then moulded in sheets and cut to shape. The marbling effect comes from kneading different types of plastic waste together and no extra pigment is added. This is a zero-waste process because all offcuts are re-melted and used again.
All plastic waste used for Weez & Merl’s serveware is sourced from local businesses’ trash (Brighton & Hove - UK), thus contributing to closing the loop between waste and new sustainable productions.
